Lebensqualität und Lebenszufriedenheit: „missing link“ in der Beurteilung der Erwerbsintegration von Frauen?
Die Erhöhung der Frauenerwerbsbeteiligung sowie der Abbau von Gender Gaps sind erklärte politische Ziele seit vielen Jahren. Die erzielten Erfolge werden kritisch und zum Teil kontrovers diskutiert. Ein Aspekt, der in diesen Diskussionen kaum berücksichtigt wird, ist der Zusammenhang zwischen Erwerbsintegration von Frauen und deren subjektiver Lebensqualität bzw. Zufriedenheit mit dem Beruf. Die vorliegende Analyse basiert auf dem Sozialen Surveys 2003 und lässt darauf schließen, dass Frauen zu Gunsten der Vereinbarkeit von Beruf und Familie Abstriche bei der Qualität der Berufstätigkeit machen. Damit wird auch deutlich, dass eine umfassende Debatte um Chancengleichheit die systematische Einbeziehung dieser Dimensionen erfordern würde.

Monitoring of Qualifications and Employment in Austria: an empirical approach based on the labour force survey
The empirical approach referred to in this article describes the relationship between education and training (ET) supply and employment in Austria; the use of the new ISCED (International Standard Classification of Education) fields of study variable makes this approach applicable abroad. The purpose is to explore a system that produces timely information on how the specialised and layered supply of initial vocational education and training (VET) is reflected in employment structures. This is done by ‘screening’ potential risks and opportunities related to ET specialisations, and by comparing a set of indicators across the whole ET supply (from simple occupations to higher education). The approach is based on theory of ‘constructivist’ knowledge management, and its intent is to provide input for reflection and learning among stakeholders regarding the empirical relationship between ET supply and demand.

The `duality´ of VET in Austria: institutional competition between school and apprenticeship
This article analyses the structure and development of Austrian apprenticeship in the context of the country´s wider vocational education and training (VET) system. In doing so, it draws on official data and survey results as well as the available related literature on historical institutionalism. It begins with an analysis of the basic structure of the VET system and shows that the modernising element in VET in Austria has always been situated in the schooling sector, whereas the structure of apprenticeship has changed little, remaining primarily in the traditional sectors of employment. It goes on to analyse recent developments in the apprenticeship system, revealing signs of a `crisis´ that is been resolved by establishing more institutional forms of apprenticeship. Finally, the developments in Austria are analysed with regard to more basic questions relating to the strengths and weaknesses of the apprenticeship model, indicating some quite paradoxical features and unresolved puzzles.

Die aktive Arbeitsmarktpolitik für Jugendliche ist in den vergangenen Jahren stark ausgeweitet worden. Damit hat man auf die zunehmenden Probleme beim Übergang von Bildung in Beschäftigung reagiert. Jugendliche sind den konjunkturellen Schwankungen am Arbeitsmarkt stärker ausgesetzt und unter ihnen insbesondere jene, die über mangelhaften schulischen und beruflichen Kompetenzen verfügen bzw. mit belastenden persönlichen oder sozialen Verhältnissen konfrontiert sind.
