Thematic Network Title: "FORUM for European Research in Vocational Education and Training (Forum)"

In the European path towards a "knowledge based society" vocational education and training (VET) is central to the vision of a socially based innovation culture. It provides the basic skills, knowledge and technical abilities required by an industrial and scientific culture to support the work process and to develop a culture of sustainable innovation and the creation of employment opportunity.

The Forum aims to foster mutual learning for European researchers in VET through the organisation of workshops. The Forum is bringing together researchers from different traditions, disciplines and cultures with the aim of defining and exploring a European dimension for VET.
Furthermore the Forum shall also play a role in the dissemination of existing research and projects particularly the work being presently undertaken through the various European Community research programmes.
Even more important is its role in linking with different networks of researchers and practitioners in order to reflect and exchange the cultural diversity and heritage of national systems and practice.
It is this role as a tool for collaboration which can develop the strength of the European organisation of innovation through the integration and exchange of different cultures in the establishment of a transnational research community and the identification of a European dimension in VET.

In addition, the FORUM has the task to integrate the coaching and development of young researchers into the work of the network. Young males (<30 years) and young female (<35 years) work alongside more experienced colleagues. This innovation will ensure that the FORUM makes a lasting contribution to the research and development community, on a European scale.
